Delta-X: Acclaimed in High-End Audio, Proven in the Studio

1080x720_delta_x

Since its initial release, Shunyata Research’s Delta-X power distributor has quickly established itself in both high-end audio systems and some of the world’s most demanding professional recording environments.

Delta-X was created with a straightforward goal: bring technologies originally developed for Shunyata Research’s reference Everest-X into an eight-outlet power distributor at a dramatically more accessible price. Its combination of TAPc, QR/BB, GPNR, CCI noise filtration and DTCD-optimized current delivery reduces electrical noise and overcomes current limitations, revealing greater resolution, dynamics and dimensionality in recorded sound.

The response from reviewers and recording professionals has been immediate and resoundingly positive.

CRITICAL ACCLAIM

Delta-X has already earned significant critical recognition, including a 2026 Golden Ear Award from The Absolute Sound. Reviewer Andrew Quint described the addition of Delta-X and Shunyata Research power cables to his reference system in unusually emphatic terms:

“The integration of the Delta-X power distributor and a range of that manufacturer’s power cords into my audio system brought about the single largest improvement in sound quality at one time I’ve ever experienced.”

— Andrew Quint, The Absolute Sound, Issue #374

That experience was echoed by Tracking Angle reviewer Ken Redmond, who found that Delta-X went beyond conventional notions of lowering audible noise:

“The Delta-X was allowing more of the musical event to arrive intact. I found myself gravitating toward albums whose emotional impact depends upon momentum, phrasing, and the subtle interaction between musicians.”

— Ken Redmond, Tracking Angle, July 2026 (link)

PROVEN IN THE STUDIO

The same qualities that distinguish Delta-X in high-end playback have made it particularly relevant in professional recording, where lowering noise and preserving the integrity of the signal chain are fundamental requirements.

David Gilmour’s Astoria Studio in the UK recently acquired seven Delta-X power distributors, continuing a relationship with Shunyata Research that began more than two decades ago. Studio Manager Phil Taylor described the results:

“The Delta-X’s made an instant difference, effectively adding resolution and depth to our whole signal chain whilst reducing the noise floor.”

— Phil Taylor, David Gilmour’s Astoria Studio, UK

CRITICAL TECHNOLOGIES IN DELTA-X

TAPc

TAPc (Transverse Axial Polarizer) is a patent-pending technology that couples to the electromagnetic fields surrounding electrical or signal conductors. TAPc behaves like a polarizer, passively reducing electromagnetic distortion that presents as a type of glare on sound or images.

The sonic impact of TAPc is unmistakable. There is a profound drop in perceived noise floor, effortlessly portrayed dynamics and an immediate improvement in the rendering of timing and coherency in sound. These performance elements are unique to TAPc and remain unaddressed by competing technologies of any kind. Even casual listeners can recognize the effect TAPc has upon first listen. Results are consistent across a wide range of components and systems. Essentially, the TAPc modules act as force multipliers, elevating the listening experience to levels many would not have thought possible.

qrbb

The ‌‌QR/BB™ is a patented device which dramatically enhances the perception of dynamic impact and timing when connected to amplifiers or other high-current electronics. The ‌‌QR/BB™ is unique in that it provides a local reserve of energy, or Coulomb charge, that mitigates the inductive reactance of the AC power line without using coils, transformers or capacitors. The ‌‌QR/BB™ acts as an instantaneous energy reserve when placed in-line with an AC power supply.

GPNR

GPNR (Ground Plane Noise Reduction) is an advanced ground noise filtering system engineered to reduce high-frequency interference that pollutes the ground plane of audio and video systems. GPNR provides continuous ground-plane noise reduction for all connected components, with no setup required. Components connected to the power distributor’s CGS (Chassis Grounding System) terminal via an external ground cable can access even higher performance by providing an ultra low impedance path to the GPNR filtration system. This enhances noise dissipation beyond what is possible through the standard AC ground path alone. By cleaning the system’s ground plane, GPNR dramatically lowers the system’s noise floor, preserving clarity, enhancing timing precision, and revealing subtle musical and spatial detail.

NIC

The ‌‌NIC™ (‌‌Noise Isolation Chamber) is a patented Shunyata Research device that reduces high frequency power line noise. It employs a ferroelectric substance that actually absorbs high frequency noise without any of the reactive negatives associated with transformers and large capacitors as used in conventional power conditioners.

KPIP v2 tech icon

KPIP v2™ Shunyata Research’s proprietary Kinetic Phase Inversion Process includes four days of continuous KPIP v2™ processing which refines conductor metals at the atomic level. This dramatically reduces burn-in time and significantly improves sonic performance, delivering a relaxed and life-like presentation. When compared to the original process, KPIP v2™ represents a dramatic performance upgrade on par with a component-level upgrade.
